The three formats

Group therapy is now a Course and a webinar is a Workshop. Old links still narrow to the right place.

Finding one

Search by topic, and by place if you want a room rather than a screen. The filters: Sort by Starting soonest, Lowest price or Most places left. There’s a map, but it’s never the default.
The Groups page with a search field for a topic and a suburb or online, format pills for courses, workshops and support groups, a filter panel down the left for format and care type, a List and Map toggle with a sort control, and program cards showing the price, the start date and the schedule.

Narrow the catalogue on the left, or switch the results between List and Map

Cohorts

Programs run in intakes, so what you book is a cohort, not the program. Each one shows its start date, its schedule — “Six Tuesdays from 4 March” — and either how many places are left or that it’s full. Three or fewer places left is flagged.

Joining

1

Choose an intake

Pick the dated cohort that suits you. A full one is still selectable — it becomes a waitlist request.
2

Your details

If you’re not signed in, you make an account here with an emailed code. Then an optional phone number, and an optional note for the facilitator: access needs, what you’re hoping to get out of it, or anything you’d rather they knew.
3

Pay

The whole program, once, at the time you book. A program priced per session is charged for all of its sessions together, so the total you see is the total.
Your place is held while you’re paying and released if you don’t finish. Then you get an email confirming the place, with calendar invites for every session, plus the video link if it runs online or the address and arrival notes if it’s in a room.
Booking a place also opens messaging with the facilitator. See Messages.

Waitlists

If a cohort is full you can join its waitlist. Nothing is charged. If a place opens in that intake it’s offered to you, and you have 48 hours to take it.

Withdrawing

Withdraw before the first session and you’re refunded in full. Email us. After the first session the place is yours and the program’s own terms apply, on the program page.

What’s on a program page

About this program, who it’s for, what happens in a session, the dates and intakes, the facilitators, and funding and rebates, with other programs like it underneath. The price sits beside it with the next intake, where it runs, and a way through to one-to-one care. Co-facilitated programs list every facilitator, each linking to their profile.
A program page for an eight-week anxiety course, badged Course and Adults 18 plus, with a summary of the program, a photograph of a facilitated group, an About this program section, and a panel giving the total across eight sessions paid once and the next intake date and weekly time.

Cost

A group place is usually a fraction of the equivalent individual fee, and what you see is what you pay — Open Therapy adds nothing on top. Facilitators pay a 15% commission on group enrolments, in place of the fees a one-to-one session carries. See Fees.

Rebates

Whether a Medicare, NDIS, private health or employer rebate applies depends on the program, and each program page says which. Group programs are not automatically rebatable just because individual sessions with the same practitioner are — see Rebates and funding.

If a group isn’t the right shape

If you’re struggling and a program’s first session is a fortnight away, don’t wait on it — book a session, or see Getting help for what’s available right now, including Lifeline on 13 11 14.
