What you pay

The therapist’s published price, plus card processing at checkout. No booking fee, no service charge, no subscription. On a $180 session the processing line is $3.42, so the card is charged $183.42. The checkout summary writes it as the session plus card processing.
No platform fee is in what you pay. Open Therapy charges the therapist a one-off introduction fee on a new client’s first booking, out of their payout. Card processing is the Stripe estimate added so the therapist keeps the published price. See Fees.

When you’re charged

At booking, in full. The money is held until the session happens. See Cancellations and refunds.

Saved cards

Ask us to keep a card at checkout and it appears on your next booking. Nothing is saved unless you ask. Payment methods under Billing lists them, with Remove on each. Removing is permanent and doesn’t touch a session already booked and paid for.

Gift cards

Gift cards are being rolled out. The field at checkout may not appear yet.
Enter your code in Gift card code at checkout. Codes look like OT-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX, and the balance comes off the total — the summary shows the reduced amount and the price it came down from. If it covers the whole fee, there’s nothing to pay. A first-appointment offer is separate. Codes look like OT40-XXXX-XXXX, take $40 off a first session, last 60 days, and are funded by Open Therapy rather than by the therapist. The offer may appear while you’re browsing signed out. It is not a gift card, and a gift-card field will refuse it.

If a payment fails

A Payment failed email gives the amount, what it was for, the reason your bank gave, and what to do next. The session isn’t confirmed, so fix the card and book again.

Paying with Medicare, NDIS or private health

Pay in full at booking and claim your rebate yourself. Your invoice carries what a claim needs, including the MBS item number where the service has one. Bulk billing and direct claiming aren’t available yet — see Rebates and funding.

Group programs

Charged in full when you enrol, and refunded in full if you withdraw before the first session. Some programs are priced for the whole program and some per session — the card says which. See Groups and programs.
