# Free tests

> The public mental health tests and reflections at /tools — what they are, what they are not, and what happens to your answers.

Free tests sit at [opentherapy.app/tools](https://opentherapy.app/tools). You don't need an account. Answer the questions, get your score and what it means, and see what to do next.

**Nothing is saved, and your answers never leave your browser.** Open Therapy does not get a copy of what you ticked.

<Warning>
  A questionnaire is not a diagnosis and it is not therapy. It cannot tell you what treatment to
  have. Open Therapy is not a crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call
  **000**. For crisis support, call **Lifeline** on **13 11 14**. More numbers on
  [Getting help](/getting-help#crisis-support).
</Warning>

## Two kinds of test

|                |                                                                                                                                                       |
| -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Screener** | A published instrument with population data behind its bands. The score is a finding: "moderate" means what that instrument's authors defined |
| **Reflection** | Written here, because the well-known measure of that thing is licensed. It can sort your answers into a picture. It must not be read as a measurement |

Screeners show a number. Reflections show the word for where you landed, not a score.

## What's on the hub

Nine published instruments, then three reflections.

| Test                            | Instrument |
| ------------------------------- | ---------- |
| Depression test                 | PHQ-9      |
| Anxiety test                    | GAD-7      |
| K10 psychological distress test | K10        |
| DASS-21 test                    | DASS-21    |
| WHO-5 wellbeing index           | WHO-5      |
| PTSD test                       | PCL-5      |
| Postnatal depression test       | EPDS       |
| Alcohol use test                | AUDIT-C    |
| Adult ADHD test                 | ASRS       |
| Is it time to talk to someone? | Reflection |
| Burnout check-in                | Reflection |
| Sleep and mood checklist | Reflection |

The PHQ-2 is not on the hub. It is the first two items of the PHQ-9, so a page for it would offer less than the PHQ-9 under the same searches.

These are the same instruments a therapist can send you in [Forms](/clients/forms-and-measures). A form your therapist sends is stored on your file. A test you take here is not.

## After you finish

The result names the band, says what it means, and lists what to do next. From there you can **Find a therapist** — which opens [matching](/clients/find-a-therapist) — **Browse** the care type that test belongs to, or **Take it again**.

You can also leave an email so the result, and a few therapists who work with this, are sent to you. The item answers are not in that email. If you never type an address, you stay anonymous.
